Chicagost 7.juunil 1917 alguse saanud maailma suurim heategevusorganisatsioon Lions Clubs International tähistab tänavu oma sajandat juubelit. Liikumise eesmärgiks on aidata eelkõige oma kogukonna abivajajaid, kuid olulised on ka ülemaailmsete loodusõnnetuste ohvrite abistamine ning arengumaade tervishoiu edendamine. Organisatsioon koondab kõiki hea tahtega inimesi, tänaseks kuulub sellesse 1,4 miljonit liiget enam kui 46 tuhandes klubis viiel kontinendil. Saja aasta jooksul on lion’id ehk lõvid võitnud tunnustust ja tänu erinevate abivajajate toetamisega ligi 210 maal.
Eestisse jõudis lionsliikumine 28 aastat tagasi Soome kaudu. Täna tegutseb üle Eesti 61 klubi, kokku pea 1300 liikmega, millega ollakse ka Eesti suurim klubiline heategevusorganisatsioon. Klubid tegelevad erinevate abiprojektidega, kuid põhirõhk on valdavalt laste heaoluga seotud projektidel. Selleks tehakse tihedat koostööd kohalike kogukondadega, lasterikaste perede liiduga, SOS lastekülaga, liikumispuudega inimeste liiduga jne. Lionid on abistanud abivajajaid ka saatesarjade „Kodutunne“ ja „Jõulutunnel“ kaudu. Eesti lionsklubid aitasid koguda vahendeid vaimse puudega laste „Maarja külale“ uue bussi ostuks, mille üleandmine toimub tänavu 28. aprillil.
Lions Clubs international, the biggest charitable organization of the world that received its beginning from Chicago on June 7 1917, marks this year its 100th anniversary. The aim of the movement is to help above all persons that need help in the local community but also to assist victims of worldwide natural catastrophes and to promote developing countries' health care. The organization gathers all people with good will and by today it has 1.4 million members in more than 46 thousand clubs on five continents. During the 100 years the lions have won recognition and gratitude for supporting people in need in nearly 210 countries.
The movement arrived in Estonia 28 years ago from Finland. Today there are 61 clubs all over Estonia, a total of nearly 1300 members, and so it is the biggest Estonian club-type charitable organization. The clubs deal with various assistance projects, but the main emphasis is on projects mainly related to the wellbeing of children. There is close cooperation with local communities, with the union of children of large families, with the SOS Children´s Village, with the union of people with mobility impairment, etc. The Lions have helped people in need also by means of different TV shows, e.g "Kodutunne" and "Jõulutunnel".
The Estonian Lions Clubs helped to buy a new bus for the "Maarja Village", a place for children with intellectual disability. The delivery will take place on 28th April this year.
100 Jahre Lions Bewegung
Die am 7.Juni 1917 in Chicago gegründete größte in der Welt Wohltätigkeitsorganisation Lions Clubs International feiert in diesem Jahr ihr hundertjähriges Jubiläum. Das Ziel dieser Bewegung war vor allem den Hilfsbedürftigen ihrer Gemeinde zu helfen, wichtig war jedoch auch Opfern von Naturkatastrophen in der ganzen Welt behilflich zu sein und die Gesundpflege in Entwicklungsländern zu fördern. Die Organisation vereinigt alle wohlgesinnte Menschen, heutzutage sin des 1,4 Millionen Mitglieder aus mehr als 46 000 Klubs aus allen fünf Kontinenten. Im Laufe von hundert Jahren haben Lions oder Löwen Anerkennung und Dankbarkeit für die Unterstützung verschiedener Hilfsbedürftigen in ca 210 Ländern erhalten.
Nach Estland kam die Lions Bewegung vor 28 Jahren durch Finnland. Heutzutage sind in Estland mehr als 61 Klubs tätig, insgesamt mit fast 1300 Mitgliedern und ist der größte in Estland
