MÕISAKÜLA
1941
Various Russian stamps and the 3 s. Estonian Carrier Pigeon stamps
were surcharged or overprinted with the permission of the local Estonian
Home Guard commander.
The issue was mainly sold in Mõsaküla and Abja. A small
number of stamps were placed on sale at the Sub Post Office in UueKariste.
Cancellations are known from Mõisaküla, Uue-Kariste and
Pärnu. The issue used German tariffs.
The following linoleum handstamps were used:
1) Unframed single line "VABA EESTI" was overprinted diagonally
on the 10, 20 and 60 kop. values.
2) Framed double line (10 x 18 mm) "VABA EESTI 1.20" surcharge
for the 1 and 5 kop. and the 3 s. values.
3) Framed double line (18x32 mm) "VABA EESTI 2.40" surcharge
for the 50 kop. value.
The framed OPT for the 3 s. was applied horizontally and for the 1,
5 and 50 kop. vertically.
The color of the OPT is black.
Proofs: Prints of the three handstamps on the same
yellowish paper are known.
Price: 40 USD (please note that all prices are estimates
in USD, based on the average retail market of 1985,
when the original catalogue/handbook was written. The prices are considerably
higher today).
Forgeries: of excellent quality are known. Expertization
is mandatory. The genuine canceller of Abja has been used on some
forgeries after the war.
