Otepää vald asub Valga maakonnas, 1180 km2 Otepää kõrgustikul. Elanikke on vallas 3962 (01.01.2016) ja üldpindala on 217 km2. Otepääle on iseloomulik kupliline, rohkete järvedega (ca 55) moreenmaastik. Suurim järv piirkonnas on Pühajärv, kõrgeimad tipud on Kuutsemägi (217 m) ja Harimägi (212 m). Otepää paikneb Eesti linnadest kõige kõrgemal, kuni 152 meetrit merepinnast. Omapärase ja väärtusliku maastiku kaitseks on loodud 22 430 hektariline Otepää Looduspark, mis hõlmab suuremat osa valla territooriumist. Otepää vapiloom on karu, sest Otepää nimi (oti pea) on tulnud karupea-kujulisest linnamäest.
Otepää on kogu Eestis tuntud ja teatud kui talvepealinn. Siin on rikkalikult võimalusi tegeleda talispordialadega – huvilisi ootavad suusa- ja matkarajad, Munamägi ja Kuutsemägi, Otepää Winterplace, Tehvandi ja Kääriku spordikeskused ning palju muud põnevat. Otepääl leiab tegevusi ka suvisel ajal – matkates, kalastades, ujudes. Otepää ajalugu on rikas põnevatest sündmustest, siit on pärit mitmed tuntud kultuuri- ja avaliku elu tegelased. Otepääd mainiti esmakordselt 1116. aastal Novgorodi kroonikates, mil Novgorodi vürst Mstislav käis 9.märstil siinkandis sõjakäigul. 4.juunil 1884. aastal pühitseti Otepääl esimene Eesti sini-must-valge rahvuslipp ja seega saab Otepääd lugeda Eesti lipu hälliks. 1.aprillil 1936.aastal aga anti Otepääle linna õigused.
2016. aastal tähistab Otepää uhkusega esmamainimise 900. ja linnaõiguste andmise 80.aastapäeva.
The Otepää municipality is in the Valga County, 1180 km2, lies on in the Otepää heights. The population of the municipality is 3962 (01.01.16s) and the general territory is 217 km2. Characteristic to Otepää is a rolling morain landscape with numerous lakes (ca 55). The biggest lake is Lake Pühajärv, the highest peaks are Kuutsemägi (217 m) and Harimägi (212m). Otepää lies the highest among Estonian cities, up to 152 meters above sea level. The 22 430 hectare Otepää Nature Park established for the protection of the peculiar and valuable landscane, which encompasses most of the territory of the municipality. The arms of Otepää carry bear's head (oti pea) which has come from the bear head stronghold hill. Otepää is known throughout Estonia as its winter capital. It is possible here to go in for winter sports -- there are skiing and hiking tracks, Munamägi and Kuutsemägi, Otepää Winterplace, Tehvandi and Kääriku sports centers and many more exciting things. Otepää's history is rich in numerous events. Quite a few well-known public figures have been born here. Otepää was first mentioned in 1116 in Novgorod Chronicles when the Novogord prince Mstislav came to a war path into these areas. On June 1884 the first Estonian blue, black and white flag was consecrated at Otepää and thus Otepää could be counted to be the cradle of the Estonian flag. But on April 1 1936 Otepää was granted city rights. In 2016 Otepää will mark with honor the 80th anniversary of granting town rights to Otepää and the 900th anniversary first mention of the first mention of the place.

Die Gemeinde Otepää befindet sic h im Bezirk Valgamaa auf der Höhe Otepää mit einer Fläche von 1180 km2 und 3962 Einwohnern (01.01.2016). Typisch ist hier eine kuppelförmige Moränenlandschaft mit ca 55 Seen. Der größte See ist Pühajärv und die höchsten Gipfel Kuutsemägi (217 m) und Harimägi (212 m). Die Stadt Otepää (Odenpäh) ist in Estland die am höchsten vom Meeresspiegel (bis 152 m) liegende Stadt. Zum Schutz der eigenartigen und wertvollen Landschaft ist ein 22 430 ha großer Naturpark Otepää gebildet worden, der den größten Teil der Gemeinde umfasst. Das Wappentier von Otepää ist der Bär, der Name Otepää (im altestnischen Bärenkopf) stammt vom Burghügel, der einem Bärenkopf ähnlich ist.
Otepää ist in Estland gut bekannt als Winterhauptstadt. Hier gibt es sehr viele Möglichkeiten für Wintersportarten - Euch erwarten Ski- und Wanderpfade, die Berge Munamägi und Kuutsemägi, der Winterpalace Otepää, die Sportzentren Tehvandi und Kääriku und vieles anderes. In Otepää kann man auch im Sommer vieles tun - wandern, angeln, schwimmen. Otepääs Geschichte umfasst viele spannende Ereignisse. Der Name Otepää wurde zum ersten Mal 1116 in der Nowgoroder Chronik erwähnt, als der Fürst von Nowgorod Mstislav am 9.März sich hier mit seinem Feldzug befand. Am 4. Juni 1884 wurde in Otepää die erste Estnische blau-schwarz-weiße Nationalflagge eingeweiht, so dass Otepää als Wiege der Estnischen Flagge angenommen werden kann. Am 01. April 1936 erhielt Otepää die Stadtrechte.
2016 feiert Otepää mit Stolz den 900. Jahrestag ihrer Ersterwähnung und den 80. Jahrestag des Erhaltens der Stadtrechte.
